Explore Modern Warfare 4's launch maps and modes, from 6v6 battles and 32v32 Ground War to Gunfight, Inflation, Hijack and Combat Outpost.

Modern Warfare 4 launches with 12 new Core 6v6 maps and three 32v32 Ground War battlegrounds; your first choice is between compact team fights and a larger infantry-and-vehicle front. Shipment is outside the day-one Core count and is scheduled for October 27, so plan around the 12-map pool first. You can review MW4 DMZ Leveling Boosting details as you plan your launch sessions around the confirmed map pools.

How the launch map pools differ

Core 6v6 supplies the tighter rotation, while Ground War spreads combat across three larger environments and supports 32v32. The confirmed settings offer terrain cues, but they don't establish one safe route for every engagement, so read each map around its cover, elevation, and approach options.

Urban maps such as Mumbai, Silkworm, and Rooftops put connected buildings and elevation changes in focus; Ground War adds vehicle exposure and longer approaches alongside infantry fights. Shape your preparation accordingly: read routes on compact maps, then check how cover and reinforcement lines work at scale.

1 Core 6v6 maps

The Core pool is a practical starting point when you want compact team fights and repeated chances to learn a layout. Its 12 new maps are the day-one set; Shipment is separate and scheduled for October 27.

The settings provide useful clues for reading sightlines and approach routes.

• The confirmed Core 6v6 pool is Cachette, Coal, Lithium, Lotus, Mumbai, Munition, Nautical, Reactor U92, Rooftops, Sentry, Silkworm, and Transit 213.

• Mumbai's residential district circles a Victorian market cut by a railway, while Silkworm's South Korean shopping district links apartments and alleys to a convenience store, gaming den, and subway entrance.

• Rooftops takes combat onto Hotel Times West's snow-covered roof complex, where HVAC platforms, skylights, a greenhouse, boiler room, and patio create multiple routes.

Lithium, Munition, and Reactor U92 shift toward refinery, command-facility, and damaged-reactor settings; Lotus, Nautical, and Sentry bring a fishing village, ferry, and winter military base. Check cover transitions and elevation before settling on a route, since the different settings call for different approaches. Treat industrial sites and vertical spaces as cues to inspect central structures and alternate paths when a match begins.

2 Ground War battlegrounds

Ground War suits players who want 32v32 and a wider battle where infantry and vehicles share space. Armored vehicles and long-range positions can expose routes that seem safe on foot, so positioning and territory matter alongside eliminations. Imjin's fields and waterways, Hajin's buildings, and Forest's wooded links each change how exposed a crossing feels.

The three locations point to distinct terrain problems.

• Imjin Farmlands spreads combat across rural ground, roads, railway lines, waterways, fields, and scattered structures.

• Wolves Stadium places the fight around Hajin's urban center, with multi-story buildings, transit links, tunnels, rooftops, and surrounding terrain.

• Forest connects wooded hills with roads, off-road routes, railway tracks, and military points of interest.

Use the terrain to plan how your team approaches objectives: open rural routes, dense city blocks, and wooded connections don't offer the same cover. Holding useful ground can help your team reinforce a fight, so judge a position by its wider value as well as its immediate combat potential.

3 Movement practice and Shipment timing

Movement skills affect how you read Core maps, because sprinting, sliding, climbing, mantling, and prone transitions can link together. Shipment belongs in a later practice plan: its scheduled October 27 arrival follows the October 23 launch, and it isn't part of the day-one Core pool.

Use the confirmed traversal tools to make map study practical.

• Mantle Slide, Mantle Momentum, Mantle Steering, Pipe Climb, Hand Shimmy, and Climbing Jump add ways to reach or leave positions.

• Proving Grounds provides tutorials and timed courses where you can practice these techniques and pursue higher ratings, including an S Rating.

• Across the Core maps, check climbable geometry, elevation changes, cover transitions, and alternate approaches instead of memorizing doorways alone.

Practice a movement technique in Proving Grounds, then look for useful applications in the Core pool. Keep Shipment's date in mind when setting launch expectations, since it is a later addition rather than one of the 12 day-one maps.

Which map pool should you learn first

Start with the 12 Core layouts if you mainly play 6v6; move to Imjin Farmlands, Wolves Stadium, and Forest when you want 32v32 and vehicle-aware positioning. For a separate progression step, you can review MW4 Leveling Boosting details while planning your next launch sessions.
